If you’ve ever watched an episode of your favourite TV show, you’ll know that it can take more than one episode to see the full effect of a new piece of plot. In fact, sometimes it can take as long as four episodes or the end of the season to see real change. It’s why many people are so eager to find out what happens when they commit to a longer period of time with a program or study. The great thing about hypnotherapy for confidence, is that the results are solution focussed and fast.
To help answer some questions, and to give an insight into some of the techniques involved within the therapeutic process check out the rest of my blog below.
What is a typical session like?
A Hypnotherapy session usually ranges from 50 minutes to 1 hour. If it is your first session the therapist will take a full case history, including what you reckon has been holding you back in the past (your limiting self beliefs).
It is okay not to fully know.
They will also discuss how you feel about your lack of confidence and what you want to be able to achieve. Your realistic goals and expectations. This could be a particular task coming up i.e. public speaking, or a presentation. Exploring how it would make you feel being able to achieve them the way you want to.
The hypnotherapy process will be explained and any questions or concerns answered. The session is individual to you, so your therapist will look at your priorities to work on, which you would have shared during your case discussion.
Many people quite naturally do not know what to expect for their first session or first experience of hypnosis, but find it deeply relaxing. There is nothing to worry about, as You are in control at all times, and guided by your therapist. All hypnosis is self hypnosis and it is a natural state.
A Natural state
We drift in and out of different levels of awareness quite naturally, many times a day, absorbing information on both a subliminal level as well as a conscious one.
For example, think about a time when you last drove somewhere? And realised you had gone into ‘Auto’ pilot for part of the journey? Perhaps arriving at your destination with barely any conscious memory of the journey you just took! Your subconscious competence enables you to drive safely, while another part of your mind daydreams.
Or perhaps you may be an avid reader, deeply engrossed in a book. Completely shutting off from any distractions and the outside world. You think you have been reading for just 20 minutes but it is 40 minutes later! The time can fly by without you even noticing!
What can Hypnosis for Confidence be used for?
Hypnosis for confidence can be used for a variety of situations. You may have an event coming up i.e. a Wedding. Where being the centre of attention, fills you with dread! Worried about walking down the aisle, or your vowels, on what should be the happiest day of your life.
There might be a speech or a work presentation you are having to deliver. Or perhaps having to sit an exam where you are lacking confidence. Or have a job interview coming up where hypnosis for confidence can give you that added boost.
In the safety of hypnosis you can look forward to your big day or event without any of the usual butterflies or nerves. Having a ‘rehearsal’ where you are enjoying your day, or delivering your speech, or answering those interview questions with clear clarity and confidence. Undertaking the activity or task in question, successfully. Being at the top of your game.
The hypnotherapy visualisation techniques used, send a powerful message to your subconscious mind that everything is Okay. Reframing beliefs to create a new way to respond, for a sense of calm and clarity.
Your special day or the event or task in question, being something to be looked forward to – rather than feared!
What is the Ideal Number of Sessions to See Changes with Hypnosis for Confidence?
There are no set number of sessions that you need to complete for hypnosis for confidence. We are all unique and the sessions will be tailored to you, your needs, and presenting factors. The number will therefore understandably vary.
That said, on average, you would usually be looking at 3 – 4 sessions as a guide, to either get you where you want to be, or well on your way.
Some people come back for a top up session i.e they may have a further presentation or engagement coming up, and need that added boost which confidence hypnosis can provide.
Anchoring and Breathing Techniques to Help
Steve hypnotherapy will normally set up an ‘anchoring’ technique within your first session, as your own additional inner resource. This ‘anchor’ would be embedded under hypnosis, utilising positive emotions from one area in your life to be enacted discretely as an additional resource, on the day, or whenever needed.
It can be set up to be discreetly activated by simply pressing your thumb and forefinger together. Allowing those feel good memories, to come flooding back from a time when everything was perfect for you! Giving you that added calmness and confidence on the day. (Your own secret superpower!)
Box Breathing
Box breathing, also referred to as square breathing, is a deep breathing technique that can help you slow your breathing down. It works by distracting your mind as you count to four, calming your nervous system and decreasing stress in your body.
Box breathing is a simple but powerful relaxation technique that can help return your breathing pattern to a relaxed rhythm. It can clear and calm your mind improving focus.
Step 1: Breathe in counting to four slowly. (Feel the air enter your lungs)
Step 2: Hold your breath for the count of 4. (Try to avoid inhaling or exhaling during this count of 4.)
Step 3: Slowly exhale through your mouth to a count of 4.
Step 4: Repeat the patten, until you feel re-centered.
