Psoriasis Hypnotherapy… As we look forward to summer in the UK. Most people are planning on spending more time outdoors. But those who suffer from skin problems such as Eczema and Psoriasis, quite often find themselves in a more difficult situation. And find it harder to cope or hope to find a ‘cure’ for their ailment. Figures show around 1.1 million people in the UK suffer from Psoriasis. 125m worldwide or 1 in 50 adults. This includes well known celebrities such as Cyndi Lauper and Kim Kardashian. Both have been vocal about their own struggles with this condition.

So, what is Psoriasis…

Psoriasis is a speeding up of the usual replacement processes of the skin. Normally skin cells take around 21 – 28 days to replace themselves. In Psoriasis this process is greatly accelerated, and skin cells can be replaced every 2 – 6 days. This results in an accumulation of skin cells on the surface of the skin, in the form of a Psoriatic plaque. Most people with Psoriasis, around 80%, have common plaque Psoriasis (Psoriasis vulgaris). Plaques tend to usually appear on elbows, hands, knees, scalp and the lower back. But can appear anywhere on the body, even under nail beds. Patches can be extremely sore and itchy.

How does it make you feel?

It is quite common for a client with Psoriasis to feel that they are:

  • Not good enough
  • Disgusting
  • Ugly
  • Worthless
  • Useless

Psoriasis can occur at any point in the lifespan affecting children, teenagers, adults, males and females just as equally.

How can using Psoriasis Hypnotherapy help?

Studies have shown Hypnosis has been found to help skin conditions such as Eczema and Psoriasis. Showing  incredible results for some sufferers, by focussing on visualisations of the problem behind the problem. If you think about it….. it is unsurprising that any underlying anxiety should manifest itself through the skin, with this being the largest organ in the body. The Psoriasis sufferer often identifies themselves with the Psoriasis and believes that they will never get rid of it.

It is these feelings and beliefs that can maintain and prevent any recovery. Removal of these beliefs is paramount to achieving a successful outcome for the client. By using Psoriasis Hypnotherapy to help assess anxiety, and identifying it’s route cause. The hypnotherapist can then use these findings, to go about setting goals to reduce anxiety, using a different range of techniques. Tapping into the subconscious mind to change negative thought patterns, and beliefs, invoking change for individuals to react more confidently and positively to life situations that might lead to stress and anxiety.

People who do find sunlight to be a good treatment for them, do need to be careful. Sunburn can cause Psoriasis to flare up. Even mild sunburn can make existing Psoriasis plaques more uncomfortable and cause new patches to form.
